York has many talented folk evolving the city’s chocolate heritage into an array of fabulous sweet treats. One such baker is the popular Beth Bakes Cakes, who creates the most beautiful and delicious cakes from her Bootham kitchen. Beth reveals eight other amazing places to get your quality sweet fix in the city.
Crumbs Cupcakery
Crumbs have a gorgeous location right by the Minster. It’s perfect if you’re fancying something small, and they have such a variety of flavours. My personal favourite is the Percy Pig cupcake!
Little Blondie Bakehouse
This is a family run business by a husband and wife, with good morals and ethics behind it. They do amazing coffees and brownies; my favourites are the white chocolate brownies and blondies, and the rocky road is very nice. They’re very down to earth people too, which makes you want to support it even more.
The [N]ice Cream Factory
This place is cool because you can watch the ice cream being made in front of you; it is especially fun for kids because they can see the nitrogen smoke coming out as they make it. I really like that it’s a new and different way to be served ice cream; and I love the Jaffa Cake flavour!
The Cheesecake Guy
He’s brought the New York style cheesecakes to old York! His shop is down the traditional Shambles, a really cool location for tourists. There are amazing flavours ranging from fruity to chocolatey; the mango and passionfruit one would be my recommendation.
Deborah Bakes
Deborah does pop ups sometimes at York Designer Outlet and around York. She does cakes, wedding cakes, tray bakes, giant cookies and has been in the business for years, which shows in the great quality.
Whipped
It’s quite a small place that does melt in your mouth waffles, plus milkshakes and cooke dough. I’d really recommend them.
Brew + Brownie
I love their cookie pies, they’re my favourite. You’ll find the Brew & Brownie Cafe on Museum Street, and their Bakeshop just two doors down. They also serve vegetarian, vegan & gluten free treats everyday.
Trio Patisserie
I’ve known the owners of Trio since I was a kid – it’s a gorgeous Turkish family run business who are so hard working. Sam makes all these amazing Turkish treats of it fresh on the property.
