York is full of so many incredible independent businesses and people, yet some of us are still unfamiliar with who they are and what they do. Some have been residents in York for years while others are fairly new and became a part of the city when we were all locked away in 2021/21. So it’s time to get to know some of the people in York and everything you need to know about their business. Introducing Thora and the Prince…
Thora and the Prince is an independently owned gift and homestyle shop based in Haxby outside of York. They offer an eclectic mix of British brands and local artisan makers. As well as sourcing all of their stock in an ethical manner, the team love to seek out some of their unusual finds.
Rachel Stott originally started her business in July 2015 at The Shambles market in York. After being offered an empty shop as a pop up for Thora & the Prince, it then became a permanent location for her. Now based in Haxby, they are well supported by the local people and the wonderful community. Many of her customers are advocates for the ‘shop local’ campaign and they have many very loyal customers. They enjoy the convenience of having a local shop that offers gifts for family and friends which have a bit of an extra personal touch.
Thora & the Prince is an eclectic shop, it appeals to anyone of any age. You can find customers from as little as children to elderly people, as well as being family and dog friendly.
You can find a wide range of products in store including quirky gifts, artwork, accessories, handmade cards, jewellery, children’s wear and many more things. And with Christmas currently in full swing, they have the perfect gifting and Christmas decor, as well as a loyalty card scheme too.
