Founded by two friends from the south of Italy that found each other in York and bonded over their passion for pizza from their hometowns. Dough Eyed Pizza
Dough Eyed pizza has combined its love for traditional Neapolitan pizza with modern cooking techniques and styles to bring you their unique version. Owner Chris had no professional kitchen training but was inspired after stumbling across the world of Neapolitan pizza, he spent years researching and honing his craft to eventually open Dough Eyed on Jubbergate in central York. For an exclusive pizza go with the butternut squash base, topped with fior di latte mozzarella, roasted courgettes, and aubergines, finished with basil and olive oil for £14.
The Biga Plus
Cafe style pizza place in York city centre, The Biga + is serving Pizza Al Taglio which is pizza made and sliced in rectangular form. Fairly new to the streets of York, they have already made an impression with their innovative and flavourful pizzas. A slice of pizza here is £4.50-£4.75 with an array of topping options such as nduja and goat’s cheese, triple mushroom or zucchini. Quiche, milkshakes and delicious Italian desserts are also available.
Bistro Guy
Fresh hand-stretched sourdough wood-fired pizzas are the specialty at Bistro Guy. Bistro Guy used to run a successful, city-centre bistro but with support from loyal customers, he decided to make his business mobile. Pizzas are served out of a trailer fitted with state-of-the-art wood fire ovens and a fully equipped kitchen. Rad Pizza shop
Located within Spark, the hotspot for amazing independent food in York, Rad Pizza Shop is serving rad and affordable pizza! The simple marinara pizza for £5.50 is made with fresh San Marzano tomato sauce and topped with garlic, oregano, and basil oil. Rad Pizza combines hearty Italian flavours and ingredients with locally sourced produce. They also understand that a truly great pizza begins with the dough which is why the dough is made by hand using ‘00’ flour and is proofed for a minimum of 48 hours to ensure a fluffy but crispy base.

If you’re strapped for time, The Block is the perfect pizza pitstop! Pizzas are baked fresh every day and displayed buffet style, you can select your slice and a drink for takeaway or take a seat within their cosy, friendly pizzeria. The menu varies from day to day but there are always lots of varieties to choose from and with vegan and vegetarian options available you can be sure to find the slice for you. The block also serves a range of craft beers and cocktails if you want to grab a drink and make a night of it.
II Paradiso Del Cibo
Another option for an authentic Italian dinner, II Paradiso Del Cibo began as a small Italian deli but with a commitment to producing exceptional food and exemplary customer service it has transformed into a thriving restaurant. Passionate owner Paolo has hired an all-Italian team to ensure you receive a truly authentic Italian dining experience. On the menu, you will find traditional pizzas but their huge specials menu is updated regularly offering the chef’s creations inspired by seasonal produce. One exclusive pizza option is the ‘Carciofi E Bottarga Bianca’ (£9.75), a white base topped with grilled artichokes and cured fish roe.
The Hop
The Hop is a pizzeria and bar on Fossgate that has award-winning real ales and artisan gin whilst also serving top quality pizza from their in house wood fire oven. An all-in-one destination where you can relax, and grab a drink and a pizza, Hop also showcases local talent with live music every week. A classic margarita will cost you £7 or switch things up with ‘Three Little Pigs’, a white cheese base and Napoli sausages, parma ham, and pulled pork for £11.
Ebor Cibus Pizza
Ebor Cibus is a Latin phrase meaning ‘nourishment of York’, to get your nourishment head down to mount for a new pizza experience. After opening the company during the Covid-19 pandemic it was initially a pop-up takeaway-only business but has expanded to a fully-fledged restaurant with a dine-in area inside The Mount Pub. Ebor Cibus is also the first place in York to serve Detroit-style pizza which is an extra thick, focaccia crust, rectangular shaped pizza topped with caramelised cheese. The ‘Dough Exotic’ features 18-hour smoked pork, Korean BBQ sauce, American cheese sauce, crispy onion, and jalapenos for £25. This may seem pricey but one Detroit-style pizza can definitely serve two.
