North Yorkshire is home to many fabulous cafés and tearooms, serving everything from homemade cakes and fresh bakes to expertly brewed coffee and local Yorkshire charm. They make for excellent stop offs on your travels and destinations for a great day out, whether you’re exploring somewhere new or revisiting an old favourite.
Transdev’s No.40 bus route, together with the 30 and 30X, offers a convenient way to reach some of them, linking York, Easingwold, and the communities in between. For this trip, we’re following a cake trail, stopping off at venues known for their tempting selection of sweet treats. Join us as we visit Miss Daisy’s Tearooms, TeaHee, and The Curious Coffee Company.
Miss Daisy’s Tearooms
Our first stop takes us to Sutton-on-the-Forest and the charming surroundings of Miss Daisy’s Tearooms. Tucked within the grounds of Sutton Park, it’s a perfect place to linger over tea and cake. The family-run tearoom – named after daughter Daisy over 20 years ago – is known for its locally sourced ingredients and homemade food, which expands through breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon tea.
There’s plenty of sweet treats to tempt visitors, from a well-stocked cake counter to fresh-baked scones, which have become something of a local favourite. These are all enhanced by a warm welcome and comfortable surroundings that suit both a quick refreshment stop and a more leisurely visit. On a sunny day, the outdoor seating makes an especially pleasant place to enjoy a slice of cake before continuing your journey.
TeaHee
Back on the bus, our next cake stop is TeaHee – a go-to spot in Easingwold for delicious eats and coffee. All food is freshly made and cooked to order – including breakfast, brunch, lunch, sandwiches, salads, specials, and of course, cakes.
Settle into their relaxing indoor space or outdoor courtyard garden with your sweet treat of choice – which also caters handsomely for gluten-free eaters – and enjoy. Ours will be the award winning 3 seed and honey flapjack!
The Curious Coffee Company
Easingwold is spoilt for choice when it comes to coffee and cake, with The Curious Coffee Company also sitting pretty on Market Place. This popular independent café has a second branch in Haxby and a reputation for excellent coffee and irresistible brownies.
The all day menu tempts too, and whatever you choose you’ll be charmed by the welcoming atmosphere and characterful interior, making it easy to see why it’s such a favourite with locals. Whether you’re finishing the day with coffee and cake or settling in for a longer break, it’s a fitting finale to our No.40 adventure.
