Here in York there is a lot to love, rich history, independent shops, delicious fan favourite restaurants, but when was the last time you were introduced to something new in the city? We are taking a look at some excellent new independents in York and even letting you in on some of the exciting new openings to come. From coffee spots to book shops there is something for everyone to love!
Vi Coffee
Popular Scandinavian style coffee shop Vi Coffee has recently expanded from its residency in Spark to a new coffee and wine bar on Monkgate. Translating to ‘us’ in Swedish, Vi coffee specialises in delicious blends, pastries and cookies with a relaxed vibe that aims to slow down the traditional coffee experience.
The team only opened up in April and have already been met with positive reviews and customers that keep coming back! If you’ve been looking to try somewhere new on your daily coffee run we highly recommend giving Vi a go.
Criminally Good Books
For all the book lovers out there we have got an exciting opening for you! Criminally Good Books, a thrilling new true crime bookshop has just opened its doors down Colliergate and is brimming with mysteries and stories to uncover.

Snazzy Brew
Snazzy Brew is the latest eco-friendly cafe to open up in the city centre and globe-trotting owner Gavish Kheddo is bringing a fantastic cultural twist. Kheddo smashed the world record for being the youngest person to visit every country in Europe at only 19 and has brought a piece of his travels to his cafe’s delicious drinks menu.
Snazzy Brew specialises in coffee, tea and chocolate from around the world. Despite this, his food menu circles back to the humble Sausage roll and other British favourites. It’s a delicious mix of traditional and new flavours that is perfect for a quick treat in the city.

Sport fanatics and coffee lovers unite at Ousegate’s latest opening. Specialising in high performance running, hiking, and fitness gear, INOV8 are here to satisfy all of your needs with its in-store coffee shop. Whether you’re popping in for a post- workout treat or stopping in whilst you get a product repaired, it is the perfect place for any sport lover to check out.

Amorino
Authentic Italian gelato shop Amorino is on track to open just in time for summer and we can’t wait! Situated on Parliament street next to Marks and Spencer the sweet artisanal store crafts beautiful rose-shaped ice creams made with the finest natural ingredients. Amorino is the first of its kind in York and will be the perfect refreshing treat to try when the weather warms up.

Fan favourite pizza restaurant Rudy’s is planned to open on High Ousegate this summer. The award winning restaurant specialises in authentic neapolitan ingredients and techniques, creating a jam packed delicious menu with something for everyone to love.
