Celebrate with cocktails at Cosy Club York, Friday 5th-Monday 8th May
If you’re planning to celebrate the coronation with drinks in York, Cosy Club will be adding two limited edition cocktails to their drinks list for the bank holiday weekend. These include the Victoria Sponge and the Coronation Cup, both of which are served in a china teacup with a tasty treat on the side. You can even enjoy one for free if your name happens to be Charles or Camilla, or if your surname is King. From 8pm onwards, Cosy Club will also have a special offer on martinis, our new king’s favourite drink.

Learn about the history of the Royal Family at Mansion House, Wednesday 3rd-Sunday 7th May
York’s Mansion House has seen its fair share of important visitors. This impressive townhouse was built for the Lord Mayor of York and has been entertaining royalty since 1732. To mark the occasion of King Charles III’s coronation, Mansion House will be hosting an exhibition that documents 2,000 years of royal history in York – from Celtic Queen Cartimandua to the late great Elizabeth II. Admission to this exhibition is included with entry to the house, which contains a fascinating collection of objects and displays that help to bring the city’s past to life.

Get royally crafty at Murton Park, Saturday 6th-Monday 8th May
The family-friendly museum at Murton Park has a whole host of exciting events and activities planned to celebrate the coronation. On Saturday 6th May, visitors here can watch the historic event live in the Yorkshire Barn Cafe and little ones can get creative with a royal-themed craft session that costs just £1 per child. On Sunday 7th May, Morris dancers will be performing throughout the day. There will also be a Royal Trail to follow around the park all bank holiday weekend.

Have a picnic on Escrick Village Green, Saturday 6th May
If you’re looking to celebrate the coronation in your own community, the village of Escrick will be hosting its Village Green Coronation Celebration on Saturday 6th May. Starting at 4pm, this outdoor event will feature live music and games, along with a brilliant ‘Last Night of the Proms’ finale. If you’d like to really get in the festive mood, you can turn up wearing fancy dress or win a prize for the best decorated coronation crown. You are also invited to bring your own drinks and picnic to eat on the green.

Paint your own pottery with cake and Pimm’s at Bish Bash Pot, Saturday 6th May
If you’d like to create your own personalised piece of memorabilia, pottery studio Bish Bash Pot has a special session planned for coronation day. Painters who visit on the 6th May will be able to enjoy a complimentary slice of Victoria sponge and a glass of Pimm’s or mixed fruit juice. You’ll be able to choose from a huge range of items to paint, including plates, jugs, teapots, cups and ornaments, and the shop’s friendly staff will be on hand to offer their advice on glaze colours and painting techniques.

Sessions will take place at 10am-12pm, 12pm -2pm and 2pm-4pm and must be pre-booked for £5

Enjoy a grand garden party at Delta Hotels by Marriott York, Saturday 6th May
On the day of the coronation, Delta Hotels by Marriott York will be inviting guests into their grounds for a grand garden party. Those attending will be welcomed with a glass of fizz at 12pm and can then share a handpicked traditional British afternoon tea while watching the big event on wide screen TVs. The hotel’s beautiful gardens will provide a regal backdrop for photo opportunities and you’re promised an afternoon that’s filled with ‘family fun, sumptuous food and delightful company’. The hotel’s outdoor bar will be open throughout, so you’ll be able to raise a glass to our new king in style.

Tickets cost £30 for adults and £12 for children and include an afternoon tea. This event is not suitable for children under 5.

Join in with community celebrations at the Heslington Big Lunch, Sunday 7th May
Another community-focused coronation event is Heslington’s Big Lunch. Taking place on Sunday 7th May from 12-3pm, this relaxed village party will feature live music from the New York Brass Band and performances from local primary school pupils. You can eat your own picnic here, or buy BBQ food from the Deramore Arms and goodies from the cake stall. The village meeting hall will be showing old photos of the village and its last Big Lunch in 2022. There’ll also be a plant swap, so feel free to bring along any cuttings or seedlings that might be looking for a new home.

Make a natural crown at the Yorkshire Arboretum, Sunday 7th-Monday 8th May
The Yorkshire Arboretum at Castle Howard offers lots of outdoor fun for families, with a huge collection of trees to see and a woodland playground to explore. This May, younger visitors will be able to take part in a natural craft session here to celebrate the coronation. The arboretum will be closed on Saturday 6th to honour the big day, but on Sunday 7th and Monday 8th, children will have the opportunity to create their own crown using leaves and other treasures found in the woods.This activity is free but admission to the arboretum must be purchased.

Discover Majesty: Monarchy and York Minster, until 1st October
A trip to York Minster is one of the most popular things to do in York, and those visiting between now and October will be able to see an exhibition that explores the cathedral’s relationship with the monarchy. Majesty: Monarchy and York Minster will look at some of the royal events that York Minster has witnessed over the centuries. Among the items on display are an Anglo-Saxon coronation chair that was rescued from the minster after a fire in 1829, Chinese silk gifted to Queen Victoria on her wedding day and the beautiful cope worn by Thomas Secker, Archbishop of Canterbury, at George III’s coronation. This interactive exhibition also includes family activities, such as a chance to dress up in robes and pose for a photograph or add your own wishes for the year to a crown-shaped tag. Entry to the exhibition is free with general admission to the Minster.
